How to select the forced draft and induced draft fans for a boiler?

Are you still worried about how to select the appropriate fans for your boiler system?

For boilers with a capacity above 2 t/h, forced draft (FD) and induced draft (ID) fans should generally be arranged per individual boiler. Depending on specific conditions, the fans may be installed either individually for each boiler or in a centralized arrangement.

Characteristics of individual (per-boiler) fan arrangement:

  1. High flexibility. If one fan fails, it will not affect the operation of other boilers.

  2. The forced draft and induced draft systems are relatively well sealed, resulting in less air leakage.

  3. Better adjustment performance with changes in heat load, ensuring that the fans operate in an economical condition most of the time.

  4. Larger floor area required and higher capital investment.

Characteristics of centralized fan arrangement:

The features are generally opposite to those listed above.

When adopting a centralized arrangement, the number of forced draft and induced draft fans should be determined according to actual requirements.

For boiler houses without special requirements, one forced draft fan and one induced draft fan can each be selected without standby units.

For facilities where production load accounts for a large proportion of the total load and continuous steam supply is frequently required, two forced draft fans and two induced draft fans can be installed.
