The Role of the Forced Draft Fan and Induced Draft Fan in a Boiler System

In a boiler system, the forced draft fan and induced draft fan are a pair of “cooperative partners.” They each perform distinct tasks while working together to ensure stable and efficient combustion.

The induced draft fan is usually installed at the rear of the boiler. Its main responsibility is to extract the flue gases produced after combustion and transport them to the chimney. At the same time, it creates a stable negative pressure environment within the furnace. This not only helps with the smooth discharge of flue gases but also effectively prevents gas backflow, ensuring that the furnace pressure stays within a safe range.

On the other hand, the forced draft fan is located at the front of the boiler. It is responsible for supplying fresh air to the furnace. By pressurizing and delivering air, it forms a stable airflow that continuously provides sufficient oxygen for fuel combustion. This enhances combustion efficiency and improves thermal energy utilization.

Together, the two fans—one delivering air and the other extracting gases—work in tandem to maintain the flow and pressure balance within the boiler. This collaboration is essential for ensuring the efficient, stable, and safe operation of the equipment.
