Which is more important for an industrial centrifugal fan: airflow or pressure?

Only looking at airflow? You might be wasting your money. Remember: both airflow and pressure matter.

Airflow determines how much air you can move, while pressure determines how far you can push it. First, set the airflow according to your needs, then calculate the required pressure based on your duct resistance.
If you only consider airflow and ignore pressure, once you connect a long duct or a system with a filter, your airflow can drop by 50% immediately!

  • Short duct, direct exhaust → choose high airflow, low pressure.
  • Long duct, many elbows, with dust collector → you need a high-pressure fan, otherwise it won’t suck properly.

The safest approach: find the operating point on the fan performance curve that satisfies both your airflow and pressure requirements.
