Why Is My Industrial Fan Vibrating? 5 Common Causes and Solutionsv

💡Impeller Imbalance (Most Common Issue)

Dust buildup, corrosion, or deformation makes the impeller unbalanced.

Solution:

✔ Clean dust and debris on the impeller
✔ Check for cracks or deformation
✔ Perform dynamic balancing using a balancing machine

2. Bearing Failure or Poor Lubrication

Symptoms:
Unusual noise, bearing temperature above 80 °C, oil turning dark or dry.

Solution:
✔ Refill or replace grease (lithium-based or high-temperature)
✔ Replace damaged bearings immediately
✔ Recommend inspection every 2,000 hours and maintenance every 5,000 hours

3. Loose Base or Anchor Bolts

Symptoms:
Fan frame visibly shakes, bolts loose or cracked, uneven foundation.

Solution:
✔ Tighten all anchor/foundation bolts
✔ Re-grout or reinforce the base if necessary
✔ Add vibration isolators or rubber pads to reduce mechanical transmission

4. Poor Alignment Between Fan and Motor

Cause:
Improper installation or long-term operation causes shaft deviation or coupling misalignment.

Solution:
✔ Align motor and fan using laser alignment tools or feeler gauges
✔ Keep radial and angular misalignment ≤ 0.05 mm
✔ Inspect couplings and elastic elements regularly

5. Air Duct Blockage or System Resonance

Symptoms:
Vibration increases at a specific speed or after several minutes of operation.

Solution:
✔ Check for blocked ducts, closed dampers, or filter clogging
✔ Avoid operating at the resonance frequency
✔ Use flexible joints, dampers, or adjust support structure if needed

What Is a Safe Vibration Level?
